A few weeks ago, I added unsweetened cocoa powder to my oatmeal and swirled melted peanut butter on top. It was delicious and reminded me of a healthier peanut butter cup. I tried chocolate oatmeal it in my Instant Pot and the result is oatmeal perfection.
Did you ever eat chocolate Malt-O-Meal as a kid? Malt-O-Meal was my brother’s favorite winter breakfast. On Saturday mornings Malt-O-Meal overflowed in the microwave because his eyes were bigger than the bowl. This recipe for Instant Pot Chocolate Oatmeal has similar chocolate flavors but is SO much better. This oatmeal is made healthier because of steel cut oats. Try using maple syrup for a sweetener.
Instant Pot Chocolate Oatmeal is a healthy, chocolate-y breakfast for cold mornings. Winter in Chicago is never ending. Thankfully this chocolate oatmeal refrigerates very well for meal prep. I’ll be making another batch for breakfast next week.
Instant Pot Chocolate Oatmeal
Ingredients
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions

Add ingredients to an Instant Pot or pressure cooker. Stir until combined.

Set Instant Pot to “manual” for 3 minutes.

After the oats are cooked, let the pressure naturally release for 10 minutes.

Release any additional pressure by opening the valve. Stir the oatmeal and wait for it to thicken for ~5 minutes before eating.

Top with a drizzle of peanut butter and banana slices.
